Invisalign

Back in the day, there was only one tooth straightening method – traditional braces with a metal wire. Now, with advances in orthodontics, comes Invisalign treatment – a clear aligner system – that allows you to straighten your teeth invisibly. Fortunately for patients, Dr. Edison Han, DDS, FAGD of College Street Family Dental is an Invisalign provider, so patients can have confidence while on their journey to a healthier smile.

Invisalign is a clear aligner system that is committed to continuous innovation. After a consultation where Dr. Han will take impressions of your teeth, your custom-made aligners will be created for your mouth and your mouth only. They’re virtually invisible, so most people won’t even notice you’re wearing them. Additionally, they are removable, so you will be able to eat, drink, brush, and floss, regularly. After wearing each set of aligners for the recommended 22 hours a day, your teeth will gently and gradually shift into place.

Preventive Oral Care

There are many forms of preventive dentistry, such as daily brushing, flossing, and professional dental cleanings. Preventive oral care is just as important for adults as it is for children and proper oral hygiene begins at home. For complete care, it’s important to visit Dr. Edison Han, DDS, FAGD every six months for a regular checkup and professional cleaning. In the meantime, we will refresh your memory as to how to take care of your oral health.

Dental diseases include tooth decay, gum disease, and any type of oral infection. All of these things can be prevented with a proper oral hygiene routine. Preventive maintenance and dental care for adults are as important now as they were when you were a child. To bring your mouth to its healthiest state, you should be brushing your teeth at least twice daily with fluoride toothpaste that has been approved by the American Dental Association. In addition, you should floss at least once a day. Everyone benefits from preventive dentistry, so if you haven’t brushed today, get to it!

Oral Cancer Screening

The oral cavity includes your lips, cheek lining, gums, the front part of your tongue, floor of the mouth beneath the tongue and the hard palate that makes up the roof of your mouth. Research has identified a number of factors that increase the risk of developing cancer in these tissues. When you visit Dr. Edison Han, DDS, FAGD, he may suggest oral cancer screening to identify mouth cancer early, when there is a greater chance for a cure.

Oral cancer screening is an examination performed by Dr. Edison Han, DDS, FAGD right here in the office. This procedure is done during a routine dental visit to look for signs of cancer or precancerous conditions in the mouth. Symptoms of oral cancer include a sore or irritation that doesn’t go away, red or white patches on tissues in the oral cavity, as well as difficulty chewing, swallowing, or speaking. It’s important to understand that just because your dentist may recommend an oral cancer screening; it doesn’t necessarily mean you have cancer.

Chao Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation

Gum recession is a condition where gum tissue is lost along the gum line itself. This occurs because of periodontal disease (no matter what stage it is), abrasive habits or the natural aging process. When gum recession happens, the root of the tooth can become exposed. This means that tooth decay can affect these teeth. Since healthy gums are important for overall oral health, getting your gum recession treated by a Covina California dentist is important.

About Chao Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation
This minimally-invasive procedure treats gum recession effectively. Unlike other traditional grafting technique, this process involves no incision or stitches. Traditional gum recession techniques oftentimes require donor tissue or other soft tissue graft to rebuild the gum line. The soft tissue is sutured in place and joins with the existing gum tissue. While this is effective, the same results can be seen with Chao Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation.

During this process, a needle is used to make a small hole in the existing gum tissue. Through this small pinhole, special instruments are used in order to gently loosen the tissue. This helps to slide the gum line to cover the exposed root structure. There are no grafts needed, no stitches and no incision at all. It simply adjusts the existing tissue.
Some benefits of Chao Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation include more comfort to the
patient after treatment, faster recovery time, no need for grafts, no stitches and excellent and natural long-lasting results for these patients. To learn more about Chao Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation, call 626-498-2472 to schedule an appointment.

Gum Recession

Gum recession can be caused by a number of factors. For example:
  • Periodontal disease such as gingivitis, periodontitis, and advanced periodontitis
  • Overly abrasive brushing of your teeth
  • The natural aging process
You should seriously consider treatment for gum recession. Gum recession causes the normally protected root structure of the tooth to become exposed. This abnormal exposure can result in tooth decay. The exposure can also cause additional problems that may affect your teeth along the gum line and underneath the gum line.

Dr. Edison Han, Dr. Simon Choyee, Dr. Farnad Fariborz, and Dr. Mindo Lee at College Street Family Dental in Covina, California, offer the Chao Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation Technique (also known as the Pinhole Surgical Technique [PSTtm]) for the restoration of your natural gum line and the prevention of the problems that can occur with gum recession.
Pinhole gum rejuvenation does not require incisions or sutures.

Previous treatments of gum recession required donor tissue or soft tissue grafts to be sutured in place to merge with the existing gum tissue.
The Pinhole Surgical Technique:
  • A needle is used to make a small hole in the existing gum line.
  • Special instruments are inserted through that tiny hole to loosen gently the gum tissue.
  • Those special tools expand and move the gum line to cover the exposed root structure of your tooth.
  • The procedure adjusts the existing gum tissue.
The Chao Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation will result in less discomfort and faster recovery. It does not involve sutures, incisions, or grafting. It does produce excellent, natural-looking, long-lasting results.
